 Mini Biography of Jim Gibbs

Although born in California in 1943, Jim Gibbs was raised in rural Idaho where in learned the value of hard work on a farm.
He joined the U.S. Navy and served honorably from 1960 to 1966 volunteering for three tours of duty overseas.
Jim began a career in law enforcement in the City of Pittsburg, CA in 1966. He later moved to Reno, Nevada where he continued his police career and entered college using his G.I. education benefits. He graduated with a bachelor's degree in criminal justice and was valedictorian of the Reno Police Academy. He also graduated from the Institute of Applied Science in forensic sciences.
He simultaneously learned the real estate business in a real estate company owned by his brother. He is still an active Realtor to this day and teaches real estate classes in Tennessee.
He then entered into the political area as a candidate for sheriff in Reno Nevada but did not win. The aftermath was a retreat from politics and a search for the perfect place to live and work.
It was during these years that Jim gave service to six separate law enforcement agencies and a state prison in four different states. Jim also attended numerous law enforcement schools and academies. 
Jim Gibbs became a walking dictionary of law enforcement in the Western United States, a police instructor and school teacher. He was also a firearms instructor and a competitive handgun shooter.
A self taught publisher, Jim has published several publications including Cannon County Magazine in 1997-1998 which has been renamed Cannon County News Journal and is now published monthly and distributed throughout Cannon County.
    Jim also owns and operates the Career Institute which offers real estate, computer technology, and law enforcement courses by correspondence and Internet study. Jim has law enforcement students world wide that recognize him as an excellent instructor of investigation techniques and forensic practices.

He is married to former Catherine Bryson of California and is the father of two young men from Middle Tennessee and a daughter. Jim enjoys four wonderful grandchildren.
